Busy busy busy...

What does busy look like? My printshop...which are stacks and stacks of paper for custom letterpress jobs at the moment. Every spare space has a stack of paper either just printed or ready to be printed. Holiday letterpress cards, wedding invitations, all sorts of goodness.
Crane's Lettra is still our clients' number one choice for their custom letterpress printing. It's gotten so crazy that I've started labeling the reams with the job they belong to so as not to confuse paper or steal paper from one project for another.

Just thought I'd take a moment to say hi! We've got some cool things coming up soon so please hold on tight!

2011 Letterpress Desk Calendars!

Joie Studio's 2011 letterpress desk calendar was inspired in large part by my current obsession with traditional Chinese and Japanese design motifs and my fond memories of my travels through Japan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. I thought that the very beautiful, very luxe, very eco-friendly bamboo paper would be a perfect complement to the design. It came out beautifully. Here are the months:

These are available in my Etsy shop and they are in limited quantities. My birthday is Wednesday, so I believe I will have a sale to celebrate my birthday, Thanksgiving, and the start of the holiday season!

Enjoy!

Ready for the Holidays?

I went to Fugu Fugu's open studio (well, the last couple minutes of it) and they are definitely ready for the holidays (as seen above). Then I paid for it by working late into the night on letterpress printing and then setting up the Windmill for its first maiden run.

The 2011 calendar is *ALMOST* done. It's worth the wait. It's gorgeous.

My photography of our holiday collection is *ALMOST* done. I have a new design to debut this year.

And the first of Joie Studio's offerings of stocking stuffers have shown up on my doorstep! I'm so excited to get those packaged and photographed and share them!

So sit back, I'll be putting out our holiday offerings this week!

Congratulations Paul and Kathy!

These custom letterpress invitations, if you can believe it, are 3.5" x 5" - what is normally the size of a response card. Gorgeous, don't you think? And I love how it looks with our brown paper packaging - so eco friendly, but it has such impact. Paul came up with the design, and Kathy came by the studio to pick up since I knew they were in a bit of a rush to get them out. She came at the same time I had a private letterpress workshop starting and took pictures of the presses.

Congratulations again to Paul and Kathy!

T minus 6 months to the National Stationery Show!

It's been a long time coming, but I have finally committed to taking Joie Studio to exhibit at the National Stationery Show in 2011! Putting down the booth deposit gave me many a sleepless night because in actuality Joie Studio is doing very well at its current size with our current new and repeat clientele that I adore and, really, why rock the boat? But I've long wanted to bring Joie Studio's goods to a national audience, not just the lovely niche market we've achieved, and the goal to get Joie Studio to the National Stationery Show did give me a chance to sit down and take a long look at what I've accomplished in the 3 years I've been in business and what direction I want to take Joie Studio.

It's kind of a good place to be. I know which designs are popular and sell well, I know where the weaknesses of our line are, and I know we have very rad offerings coming up shortly. So stay tuned. I've been given a good reason to clean house over here at Joie Studio, so starting in December, you'll see subtle (too not too subtle) changes going on here in preparation for our big splash in New York in May, including changes to the website, the blog, and our under-renovation online shop. I'll keep you abreast of our preparations for the Stationery Show, including booth build, catalog design, etc., as they come, so it should be a really exciting six months.

And for those waiting, our holiday line will be up once I get back from Hawaii the week of November 15th.

Enjoy!

Hawaii Post: SHOP TOAST Visit

I'm in Hawaii at the moment. One of the first orders of business of course was a visit to my ongoing collaborators (and friends from high school) Michelle and Jeremy at Shop Toast. Shop Toast are masters of favors and gift packaging and it was fun to visit the storefront and see all the fun stuff they make and all of our collaborative stationery around! We had a good meeting and we're hoping to have a very exciting new collaborative effort out by the spring that *ahem* marries Shop Toast design with Joie Studio letterpress.

Here are a couple pics I took of the shop while I was there. Enjoy!
