Sneak Peek: New Special Edition Cards

I so loved doing the split fountain the other day on the calendar cover that I decided to make them into cards.  You likey?  I likey!  Split fountain for the back pattern...next step after they dry to is to letterpress the greeting onto it.  I'm chugging along printing a bunch of new card designs.  More soon!

Mad Hatter Kind of Wedding

I had the pleasure of working with the ever wonderful Fresh Events Company on Robbi & Charles' day-of-wedding stationery, which included placecards, table cards, programs, and menus.  I almost never see the end result.  Usually the last that I see of the cards, they look something like this, spread about a work table in the studio, waiting to be packed up for delivery:

So imagine my delight when I saw this picture on Fresh Events Company's Facebook page:

Can you spot the table cards and one or two menus?

Here is a closeup of the programs, gorgeously letterpress printed if I do say so myself:
Sorry for the cell phone pictures!  One of these days I'll lug out the SLR and take better pictures!

Congratulations to Robbi & Charles!  I'm hoping that the photographer took some awesome pictures of the wedding day stationery so we can see more details!

Sneak Peek: 2013 Calendar on Press

Joie Studio's first ever split fountain!!!

So we were printing our 2013 letterpress desk calendar and I thought the chevron pattern would look great as a split fountain.  I had fluorescent orange on the press and decided add hot pink.  I worked fast and got the whole run in with this split fountain, which I'm really happy about.  The result on the press rather reminds me of a tequila sunrise...ah delicious!  I love it so much I'm probably going to do a split fountain for two different greeting cards.  Anyhow, here's a little sneak peek of our "Bright 2013" calendar!  It'll be ready in time for the LA Printer's Fair!

SNEAK PEEK: Lauren Wedding Invitations

Introducing Joie Studio's "Lauren" invitation - one of our new designs from the Couture Collection. I love the color combination of lemon yellow with our warm dove grey. I think it's just so stunning used together. And this has been one of those invitation designs that has been sitting around, just waiting for its day to shine. I've been trying to hold off on sharing before the National Stationery Show, but what fun would that be?

One of my favorite little details about this design suite, and I honestly don't know if you can even see it in the picture above, is that the RSVP checkboxes mimic the the monogram design.
I don't generally favor lemon, but the colors inspired me to buy these lemon yellow Crocs to match:
Now I am wondering which of my other designs could stand a little lemon yellow pop to them. Hope you like Lauren! I sure do!

So sorry I've been so slow to share our holiday offerings online! We've been going through a bathroom renovation and GEESH it's been a little insane.

Also back are the gorgeously luxe Holiday Sparkle Cards:

I have two more brand new holiday designs to share with you but I was pretty remiss in getting some seasonal help at the studio and so it's just me this season! Please bear with me, I've got a pretty sweet one coming up soon!

These three cards are up and available in the Etsy shop! More soon, I promise, and stay tuned on the blog for a very special Holiday Sale in our Etsy shop and a calendar giveaway on the blog!

2011 Letterpress Desk Calendars!

Joie Studio's 2011 letterpress desk calendar was inspired in large part by my current obsession with traditional Chinese and Japanese design motifs and my fond memories of my travels through Japan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. I thought that the very beautiful, very luxe, very eco-friendly bamboo paper would be a perfect complement to the design. It came out beautifully. Here are the months:

These are available in my Etsy shop and they are in limited quantities. My birthday is Wednesday, so I believe I will have a sale to celebrate my birthday, Thanksgiving, and the start of the holiday season!

Enjoy!

Congratulations Sonia & Eric!

Congratulations to Sonia and Eric! Sonia came to me with this gorgeous 1-color letterpress design incorporating two hot trends in wedding invitations - monogram & the ultra deLUXE A9 size (5.5" x 8.5").

Here is the corresponding response card:

Sonia also had us make her a custom return address rubber stamp for the envelopes:
Here is Sonia & Eric's invitation plate on the Vandercook. If you notice, there's a piece of paper sticking out from under the plate. The invite was low in that area so I built it up a little bit to get even impression:
And here are the letterpress invitations all packed up and ready to go to their new home. Sonia and Eric were one of the last ones to get the box packaging as we're moving towards more eco-friendly packaging (and much cuter, too!) for our custom letterpress invitation orders. Here they are, tied up with satin ribbon to help the invites and response cards stay in place during transit (and to dress up the packaging a little bit).

Congratulations again to Sonia & Eric!

Congratulations Erin and Mike!

Congratulations to Erin and Mike! Erin and Mike were really open to one of my favorite beach color schemes: aqua and gold! Erin wanted starfish on the invitation, so we worked in our Marbella swirls with some sweet little starfish to give her a perfect beach themed letterpress wedding invitation!
Erin and Mike's wording was a good solution when one set of parents have remarried and all sets of parents are helping to pay for the wedding:
And more pictures of the invites:

As a special gift to my bride and groom, I made them custom letterpress stationery to match so they can get started on their thank yous:

I hope you enjoyed the starfish letterpress wedding invitations with the beach themed colors as much as I enjoyed designing and printing them!

Congratulations again to Erin and Mike!

Bunny and Owl Letterpress Art Prints

Our collaboration with Shop Toast is creating wonderful things. Honey Bunnies and Hootie Cuties are the first two of four in the Woodland Creatures collection. Shop Toast and Joie Studio have wonderful things in the works, including the next two woodland creatures, one in queue here at Joie Studio, one still being incubated at Shop Toast. The two letterpress art prints are available in Joie Studio's Etsy shop, from Shop Toast, and of course at Joie Studio's booth at J-Pop Summit this weekend and at the Los Angeles Printer's Fair next weekend.

Sneak Peek at the Hootie Cutie Patooties!

Here is our latest collaboration with Shop Toast. Our friend Michelle at Shop Toast is awfully fond of using many many colors and exact color registration. Not just tight color registration. Exact color registration. Four handcrafted ink colors have been on and off the Vandercook to create these cutie patooties. They are a just a small part of a bigger picture. Are you loving the super exact registration there? Because believe you me, I certainly was not in love with the super exact registration when I was printing these darling creatures.

Congratulations Carmen and Shane!

I worked with the ever wonderful Jennifer Olmstead on this gorgeous invitation suite, which had a deep purple paired with slate grey. I will tell you now, dark color + large solid areas is no easy feat for letterpress. And these cards are rather interesting in that only the invitation is letterpress printed. To save on time and cost, the response postcards were flat printed on the same Reich Savoy 118lb 100% cotton paper that the invitation was. Using the same paper helps to make the invitation suite more cohesive when different methods are selected for different pieces.

Here are some closeups of the invitation. I love the way the P pops out amongst the ornate swirls and dark background:
The text in slate grey:
And the front and back of the flat printed response postcard:

I hope you enjoyed these wedding invitations! Congratulations again to Carmen and Shane!

In the islands, we do it island style...

This design has been a long time coming, but it's finally available in Joie Studio's Etsy shop! It's no secret I'm from Honolulu...and here I am with yet another homage to my home state. I gave a sneek peak of this design in June, and I've finally gotten around to scoring them, folding them, and packing them into nice sets. Love the embossed effect on the hibiscus because of the debossing of the background stripe and then floral design - the leftover unprinted paper around the flower looks raised in comparison.
I also printed 'mahalo' in orange and aqua. It was originally meant to have another color scheme entirely, but I really really love the mandarin orange / aqua blue color combination, so I thought I'd go with that instead.

Mahalo for looking and I hope you enjoyed!
